This evening I was requested to present myself to the Art Directors Club of Germany. The club is quite insular in it’s set-up as you have to be invited to join, and after being invited, you have to present yourself. After presenting, the members present vote on letting you in or not. My initial presentation wasn’t without a lengthy discussion, and after being voted in, I was asked to present again. Above is my second presentation. But it also got me thinking about work and happiness. Basically, work is the pursuit of three things:
- To learn something new
- To pay the bills
- Because of love
The challenge is to find a place that covers all three goals. Jack has a great post aptly named the love, growth, cash triangle pictured below.

There’s a certain joy that comes from doing what you love, getting compensated for it and constantly learning new things in the process. Your goal should be to maximize each experience and try to cover as many new areas of the bigger triangle as possible.
