The catalyst for Up and Coming was my personal experience being active in the maker movement. Having experienced the amazingly geeky projects that were being created by combining off-the-shelf technology, creativity and a thriving community I wanted to highlight the people behind their passions by creating 3-4 minute narratives that told their story.
The barrier to entry in creating cinematic quality-like films continues to fall as hardware (cameras) becomes cheaper, software becomes more intuitive and platforms for sharing videos become more mainstream. In other words, the only thing holding one back from making films is time.
Working together with my friends and filmmakers Iliès Terki and Fernando Silvestrin we developed a series of narratives documenting people that make things. From designers doing side project to artists making the work themselves, Up-and-Coming is all about sharing those people we discover that go beyond an idea; it’s about people making ideas a reality.
